Gertie Gerwig moved to the area from Albuquerque and joined the group. Linda Brown paints and photographs scenes on site since her retirement in 2007. Janice Clevenger & Cindy Saadeh have now integrated into the group. Works completed in the field as well as the studio will be featured.
Elizabeth Johns
June 7 - July 17
Reception Sunday, June 7, 2 - 4 pm
Elizabeth Johns has been painting and showing her work, both in this region and the Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years. Her paintings are figurative and narrative in nature. The imagery comes from her own life and the lives of those around her and shows the particular affinity she feels with these mountains in which she spent her growing-up years, and where she now makes her home again. The new work is done in acrylic on board and this exhibit will be made up of a series of panels, shown as single pieces, or collected in groups.
Virginia Highlands Festival
July 25 - August 9
Reception Friday, July 24, 8 pm
Valerie G. Lyle
August 13 - September 26
Reception Sunday, August 23, 2 - 4 pm
Lyle weaves contemporary art with traditional expectations. She takes the viewer by hand into her childhood playground, a barn, complete with textures and smells. The exhibition moves from stretched canvas paintings and sculptures to reveal a walk-through installation using a surprising array of materials. As you experience the exhibition, the barn unveils itself around you. Visions of past and future, different aspects of a woman’s experience, phases of life and time, and personal dreams unfold.
